The football federations of the countries participating in the 2022 World Cup issued a statement in response to the appeal of FIFA.

Before the start of the World Cup in Qatar, we would like to respond to the latest developments and public discussions related to problems in the host country off the field before football comes to the fore.

As before, we recognize and welcome the progress made by Qatar, especially on the rights of migrant workers, and the impact of legislative changes demonstrated in recent reports by the International Labor Organization.

We welcome the assurances from the Government of Qatar and FIFA regarding the safety and inclusion of all fans traveling to the World Cup, including LGBTQ+ people.

We also recognize that every country has problems and we agree with FIFA that diversity is strength. However, accepting diversity and tolerance also means supporting human rights. Human rights are universal and they apply everywhere.

We believe in the ability of football to make a further positive and credible contribution to progressive sustainable change in the world, said in a joint statement the federations of England, Wales, Germany, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Switzerland, as well as Norway and Sweden, whose national teamswill not play in the World Cup.

Previously, FIFA participants in the 2022 World Cup concentrate on football, not politics.
